ok, so i just finished my junior year, and i feel like my choices for schools are slowly decreasing. based on the following information, what kinda of schools do you think i can get into?
my sat scores (shameful, i know)
550 writing
550 math
550 critical reading
(this was my first go at it, and although i did study, im going to take it again in the fall, as well as take a course over the summer and i hope this will drastically increase my scores. i have also been doing a lot of reading and vocab to try and boost that critical reading).
i go to a canadian school, so i only have an average, not a gpa
overall average 84%, (i did take a grade 12 course, which i bombed completely and got a 74%).
volunteering and extra curriculars: (note, in grade 9 i went to an international school in beijing)
grade 9
member of global isssues group, (went to local villages and promoted awareness for tuberculosis)
member of habitat for humanity
played on the freshman soccer team
grade 10, (moved to canada)
played on the junior varsity soccer team
member of the recycling club
one of the 10 students in the school invited to attend an annual halton youth leadership symposium
grade 11
member of the recycling club
joined the ski team as well as mountain biking club
founding member of the teen american club of ontario (we plan and participate in charitable functions such as relay for life)
i realize that my grades and sat scores are relatively weak, but i honestly hope to improve them both in the first semester of grade 12. do you guys think i will be able to attend state schools like U of I (urbana champaign) or smaller private schools like denison university? i am planning on going to a liberal arts college if i can. i might also take the act’s in the fall if i get the chance
Don’t stress out about it. Some people take it again and do much better. But even if you don’t, starting at a smaller school (perhaps a community college) could be your proving ground. If you do well at the community college, you can get scholarships to excellent universities without them ever having to see your SAT scores.
The "Dark Ages" was only dark in the sphere of the Roman Catholic Church. Progress continued in the middle east and in the far east…
The world has several major religions and it is unlikely that all would obtain simultaneous hegemony (control of church and state)…
The key to the dark ages was control of both church and state. There had to be essentially one religion and that religion had to be in control of the state, too….
If that nightmare scenario were to happen – any "international center for preserving technology" would have its records destroyed. That is what happened during the dark ages…
Hello, How do you pay for an International Flight to Paris? Do you pay cash or use a credit card to pay for the flight?
Most people pay with a credit card. If you buy the ticket from a travel agent or at the airport, you can pay cash or write them a check if you want.
This is not just a made up question, because the APA is attempting this very thing. APA said that no matter what the research showed about the psychological effects of pedophile relationships– pedophilia remained, in its opinion, "morally" wrong. The very fact that APA admitted to holding a moral viewpoint on a psychological issue ought to have opened up a broad new challenge to psychology’s authority and its presumptions as our culture’s arbiter of practically every social and moral issue now under debate.
The Archives is the official publication of the International Academy of Sex Research. That journal will feature a symposium with at least one prominent psychiatrist arguing that pedophilia is in fact (at least in some contexts) a disorder–while another prominent clinician says that it is not.
But if pedophilia isn’t a mental disorder, then just what is? If any man who violates the innocence and integrity of a child can be judged to "have nothing psychologically wrong with him"…then has the public in fact broadly misunderstood psychology’s scope and explanatory power?
History of the Diagnosis. In the DSM-III, the American Psychiatric Association contended that merely acting upon one’s urges toward children was considered sufficient to generate a diagnosis of pedophilia. But then a few years later, in the DSM-IV, the APA changed its criteria so that a person who molested children was considered to have a psychiatric disorder only if his actions "caused clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational or other important areas of functioning." In other words, a man who molested children without remorse, and without experiencing significant impairment in his social and work relationships, could be diagnosed by a clinician as a "psychologically normal" type of pedophile.
By the APA addressing the morality issue of pedophilia, they opened the door to questioning the removal of homosexuality from the DSM in 1973. Pedophiles have started to press this issue and argue parity with homosexuality, which has opened the door to discussions within the APA of homosexuality being reclassified as a mental disorder.
Dass, Homosexuality was by definition (and name) a paraphilia and as such it was by definition a mental disorder. Since "homosexuality" was listed as a paraphilia they can’t really justify the removal of it from the DSM homosexual. So you, don’t care if there was no medical reason to removed homosexuality as a mental disorder.
You see they were both listed as paraphilias and mental disorders.
Uncommon, essays are shorter than books, why not educate yourself, instead of just rolling along.
@ A Yahoo, I don’t care what the APA says, and neither should you. Neither should homosexuals, for that matter, have a say in their diagnosis. Not even the ones who have read so many internet articles and for-public books on it.
Wow, this is some good stuff and finally you think, not enough but start. It was NARTH and Spitzer who corned the APA into the DSM IV R, because they were threatened into the possibility of losing their credentials.
The APA has said that all gay men have pedophile fantasies, and they call it normal sexual fantasy, to fixate on a child.
Some one said that pedophiles should be able to participate in the reclassification, but yet the homosexual pedophiles were the ones who reclassified homosexuality. Look it up.
Some one mentioned older men and young boys, well in Britain F@gs and in France Gai, and the basis of gay male attraction was pedophile based(young boys serving men in a pleasureable manner)
One relates to mutual desire between consenting adults and the other consenting children, and they both relate to object fixation of one actor upon another unable to give consent due to age or impaired development.
Object fixation: males fixated on the anus, a substitute vagina.
Lesbians fixated on dildos and strap-ons, substitute pen*s.
The gays seem as convinced against pedophiles, who if the APA gets its way, will have the same scientific arguments as homosexuals. All you gays seem to have moral arguments, which is kind of like religion has against homosexuality. You see, according to the APA, pedophilia in some cases may not hurt the child.
Harry Hay, the modern gay rights LGBT founder, was said to have seduced a man as a child, for his first gay mentoring pedophile relationship.
Hong Kong or Singapore!
Hi i wanted to know the procedures and ways you can take a guinea pigs and a hamster on an international flight. And i wanted to know if it is safe for my pets.
You may be relocating to a new city, or perhaps you want to take your pet on an extended vacation. Flying with a pet is not impossible, but it can be complicated. Follow my step by step guide, How to Fly With Pets, to get your pet to your destination safely.
Destination restrictions
Your pet may not be allowed to travel to your destination. For example, birds, hamsters, and other animals are not allowed into Australia. Other countries have similar restrictions, especially on pet birds. Check your destination’s regulations before you travel.
Some countries, as well as the U.S. state of Hawaii, require lengthy quarantine periods before they will admit a pet. Check before you book your ticket, or your pet could have a very boring vacation!
Airline restrictions
If your pet is under 8 weeks old, it will not be allowed to fly.
If your pet is not weaned, it will not be allowed to fly.
Take your pet to the vet within 30 days before traveling. Some airlines, and many states and countries, require a certificate of health in order for your pet to travel.
Most airlines place greater restrictions on pugs, bulldogs and other short-nosed breeds (this goes for cats as well); as the American Kennel Club notes, these breeds are exceptionally susceptible to heat.
Pit bulls are banned from most airlines.
Step 2: Determine which airlines will allow your pet aboard
.Listen to this step
See below for U.S. airlines that will accept your pet. This does not include certain international carriers.
Then, check whether your specific pet will be allowed.
Will the airline accept your type of pet? Some airlines only accept dogs and cats.
Is your pet small enough to bring as carry on baggage? Your pet and its carrier must be able to fit beneath the seat in front of you. If not, many airlines will not accept your pet.
What time of year are you traveling? Most airlines that accept pets have significant restrictions during summer and winter. Check for details.
Below are links to the policies of domestic airlines that do allow pets, as of August 3, 2007. A summary of each policy is provided; please check the links for details and updates. For animals not listed, try Continental or Frontier Airlines. Poisonous reptiles, insects and arachnids are not currently allowed on any airlines.
Obviously, designating Taiwan as "Chinese Taipei" is to appease China. But exactly what would the PRC bullies do if international sports organizations were to suddenly designate Taiwanese athletes and teams as representing "Taiwan" instead of "Chinese Taipei"? Throw a temper tantrum, start a war, withdraw from competition (good riddance!), physically assault Taiwanese athletes….what…?
Its complete idiocy. There is no reason why Taiwan shouldn’t be allowed to compete as Taiwan or as the ROC in any international event. If countries and people weren’t so afraid of China they wouldn’t be able to do half the things that they are doing now.
What would China do if the Olympics, or other events started calling Taiwan, TAIWAN? Probably whine like a little baby, throw a tantrum, and withdraw from the event, and do some sort of political/diplomatic protest. Only to realize no one cares, and so the CCP masters would turn to their hatred back inwards and spread vile lies about the other countries who recognized Taiwan, claimed that the event committee was Anti-Chinese, that they were attempting to disrupt the harmony of China, and blah blah blah what ever crap they could come up with. Ending with a complete media blackout of the event and news pertaining to it. Would they go to war, most likely not. The current government of China is like a dog that goes around peeing on everything claim it as their own and then barking like it has rabies when someone says anything different. The only thing that happens in the end is the other county does what it wants, and China got to bark a lot.
As for the BSherman clone account, Gorge Washington’s (or more likely his Average American clone that was banned recently) answer. Taiwan is not a child separated from its motherland, considering Taiwan was NEVER IN THE ENTIRE HISTORY OF THE PRC, a Providence, a Territory, an out post, a fishing village, a whatever that would allow justifiable claim to the lands that are make up Taiwan. Beyond that the Republic of China government that is the legal government of Taiwan, has been in existence for FAR longer than the PRC has even been a wet dream of Mao. Therefore his first statement is already proven by historical facts to be complete lies. His second statement with even a glancing view of the link provided proves that it is also complete crap. There is NO mention of REUNIFYING anything, because the CCP governing body of the PRC is not willing to submit the rule of the Republic of China. Therefore there can be no ReUnification. The document signed was the first step, (in many people’s opinion to be a major sell out move), in a free trade agreement with China. It is not a unifying treaty it is just a trade agreement that the CCP will use to weaken Taiwan’s independence and economic stability.
Hi, I am planning to go on a international flight this summer alone and I am under 18 but over 12. I know that I no longer need the service but can someone tell me what customs and immigration is and also when boarding the plane if I don’t get the service does that mean I’ll board with everybody else instead of with the people who paid for the unaccompanied minor service and people with special needs?
You’ll have to have the documentation required to enter whatever country you plan to fly to, and you’ll be subject to whatever customs and immigration laws that country has for everyone.
If you do not get the UM service, then you’ll be subject to the normal boarding procedures of the airline. You’ll board with everyone else, and you’ll get to exit the plane as soon as the door opens at your destination, instead of having to wait for everyone else to deplane before you can leave.
Check with the airlines, though. Some require the UM service on international flights up through age 15. Others allow you to travel on your own as early as 12. There isn’t a uniform policy, so be sure to check with the airline you plan to fly.
I want to be a diplomat, after a masters degree what jobs around that area can you apple for? I plan on going to uni to do an undergraduate course and then do a graduate qualification in international relations. I really want to be a diplomat, what can you do after?
Funnily enough I want to be exactly that also. Becoming a diplomat takes years and years of experience. You don’t just become one straight after school. My uncle is a judge and advised me that the best way to go about becoming a diplomat is to first become a lawyer. Study law and praticse it for a couple of years and then you could apply for jobs anywhere. Even if you wanted a job at the UN after graduating with a masters degree, you will need at least 2 years of relevant experience after MA. You say you haven’t even started your undergrad course yet so I am guessing you must be around 17. You’re still super young, life is not running away lol. I used to think it was when I was that age and thought I needed to rush everything and things would come easy for me but the world is tough and very competitive. You must have noticed most diplomats are 45+, not in their 20s. So my advice? Study law, I recommend practising law for maybe 10 years, get a job with a Non government organisation like the UN, GCHQ, EU… whatever and it starts from there.
Good luck, I hope you become a success!
Since the attempted Christmas bombing, electronics have been banned on many international flights with specific restrictions regarding activity during the final hour of the flight. Are these rules still in place?
Several days after these policies and restrictions were implemented, the TSA relaxed the rules, and it is now at the discretion of the captain of the airplane to determine what will and will not be allowed.
You should probably check with your airline to see what their policies are concerning the use of consumer electronics on your flight.
