Since the attempted Christmas bombing, electronics have been banned on many international flights with specific restrictions regarding activity during the final hour of the flight. Are these rules still in place?
Several days after these policies and restrictions were implemented, the TSA relaxed the rules, and it is now at the discretion of the captain of the airplane to determine what will and will not be allowed.
You should probably check with your airline to see what their policies are concerning the use of consumer electronics on your flight.
I want to fly from Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) to Cambodia (Phnom Penh) around the end of June and return beginning of August probably with AirAsia.
Do i need to buy tickets before I go, or can i buy them cheaply at a travel agent or at the airport when I arrive in Malaysia. I don’t want to buy them before I go incase there is a delay in the flights from the UK and I miss the International flight to Cambodia.
Please help, I need advice on travelling to and from Cambodia from Malaysia!
Thanks

Most western countries require you to declare any amount you bring into the country exceeding 10,000.- USD / local currency. Is this the case for passengers on international flights into India as well? If so, is there a limit as to how much cash can be carried? How much? Re declaring the excess amount: Has anyone done it and knows the procedure? Is it painfully bureaucratic or straight forward? Thanks
It’s about $2,000 US dollars according to our (Indian) bank and to be honest, if you don’t need to take that much currency in one hit and just need money while you’re over there, take it out at ATM’s or use your credit card. Whilst in theory it should be relatively pain free (i.e. just declare it, fill in a form and pay any additional charges) nothing (and I mean nothing) will necessarily be that straight forward, especially if you get unlucky and get someone who doesn’t speak great english. Overall bureaucracy world wide is frustrating but it can be EXTRA frustrating for a westerner in India!
Your best bet is just to arrange for your bank to do an international money transfer to whoever you’re paying the money to’s account (don’t use a money wire service, not worth it), using SWIFT codes and IBAN. Post 9/11 the reserve bank of india is VERY hot on money laundering so if you’re traveling why carry cash and risk it if you can just take it out of an ATM as you go!
I’ve never been on an international flight before and i’ll be taking my first one from LA to Hong Kong. We’re flying Cathay Pacific Airlines. The plane leaves at midnight. Do they still serve a meal even though it’s past dinner time and most people will probably be sleeping (I assume)? If so, when do they usually serve it? Beginning of the flight or would it be more toward breakfast time?
Yep, you’ll be served two meals and there will be complimentary self-serve sandwiches, fruit, cup of noodles and candy available for the better part of the flight between the meal services.
The first meal is served fairly soon after take-off and is usually dinner or supper and the second meal which is usually breakfast, will be served a couple of hours or so before you land in Hong Kong.
Btw, Cathay Pacfic usually has very good food as far as airline food goes, and you normally get a choice of three dinner selections and two breakfast selections. The choices are usually Asian or Western meals and usually a pasta for the first meal.
Like you know how on US flights the weight limit is 50 pounds? does that change for international flights?
Please help i am leaving for Australia very soon.
Thanks!
Emilie
The weight limit is always 50 pounds. (It has to do with the safety of the baggage handlers.)
The only difference is the amount of baggage that can be brought and how much they charge.
I’ve heard Delta’s international flights like to Europe are good. They offer lots of movies and entertainment options, have decent meals, and have good service. Is this true?
I flew Delta to Europe a few years ago and I didn’t have any problems. The food was good–the flight back was an afternoon flight and I remember the lunch as being surprisingly good for airplane food. I think that Delta now has these personal entertainment screens with on-demand movies, trivia, music, etc. These tv aren’t on every Delta aircraft, but I think they are on all the larger aricraft used for transatlantic flights, like the 767-400. Here is a website that has reviews of almost every major airline.
I remember reading about a domestic airline (in the US) that offers student discounts if you call and ask. I don’t remember what the airline is, but I was wondering if any airlines that offer international flights do that?
It’s not an airline; they don’t offer student discounts. However, there are travel agencies that can arrange for lower fares as they book in bulk blocks of tickets, such as
http://www.statravel.com/
ex. terminal fee from the philippines for international flights is PhP550. airport tax from auckland, new zealand for international flights is NZ$20.
Australian departure tax is AUD38.00. It is often included in the price of your airline ticket, but if not, it must be paid in cash in AUD before departure.
EDIT: The Departure Tax is shown as $38 on both of the websites below. It used to be $27.

I am not a pediatrician but my son was 3 days old and I took him on an airplane from island to island in Hawaii and he slept the whole time.
