what kind of colleges can i get into?

Posted by admin on July 14th, 2010 and filed under international symposium | 2 Comments »

ok, so i just finished my junior year, and i feel like my choices for schools are slowly decreasing. based on the following information, what kinda of schools do you think i can get into?

my sat scores (shameful, i know)
550 writing
550 math
550 critical reading
(this was my first go at it, and although i did study, im going to take it again in the fall, as well as take a course over the summer and i hope this will drastically increase my scores. i have also been doing a lot of reading and vocab to try and boost that critical reading).

i go to a canadian school, so i only have an average, not a gpa
overall average 84%, (i did take a grade 12 course, which i bombed completely and got a 74%).

volunteering and extra curriculars: (note, in grade 9 i went to an international school in beijing)
grade 9
member of global isssues group, (went to local villages and promoted awareness for tuberculosis)
member of habitat for humanity
played on the freshman soccer team

grade 10, (moved to canada)
played on the junior varsity soccer team
member of the recycling club
one of the 10 students in the school invited to attend an annual halton youth leadership symposium

grade 11
member of the recycling club
joined the ski team as well as mountain biking club
founding member of the teen american club of ontario (we plan and participate in charitable functions such as relay for life)

i realize that my grades and sat scores are relatively weak, but i honestly hope to improve them both in the first semester of grade 12. do you guys think i will be able to attend state schools like U of I (urbana champaign) or smaller private schools like denison university? i am planning on going to a liberal arts college if i can. i might also take the act’s in the fall if i get the chance

Don’t stress out about it. Some people take it again and do much better. But even if you don’t, starting at a smaller school (perhaps a community college) could be your proving ground. If you do well at the community college, you can get scholarships to excellent universities without them ever having to see your SAT scores.

If the APA votes and removes pedophilia from theDSM mental disease disorder, will you support the decision.?

Posted by admin on July 8th, 2010 and filed under international symposium | 14 Comments »

This is not just a made up question, because the APA is attempting this very thing. APA said that no matter what the research showed about the psychological effects of pedophile relationships– pedophilia remained, in its opinion, "morally" wrong. The very fact that APA admitted to holding a moral viewpoint on a psychological issue ought to have opened up a broad new challenge to psychology’s authority and its presumptions as our culture’s arbiter of practically every social and moral issue now under debate.

The Archives is the official publication of the International Academy of Sex Research. That journal will feature a symposium with at least one prominent psychiatrist arguing that pedophilia is in fact (at least in some contexts) a disorder–while another prominent clinician says that it is not.

But if pedophilia isn’t a mental disorder, then just what is? If any man who violates the innocence and integrity of a child can be judged to "have nothing psychologically wrong with him"…then has the public in fact broadly misunderstood psychology’s scope and explanatory power?

History of the Diagnosis. In the DSM-III, the American Psychiatric Association contended that merely acting upon one’s urges toward children was considered sufficient to generate a diagnosis of pedophilia. But then a few years later, in the DSM-IV, the APA changed its criteria so that a person who molested children was considered to have a psychiatric disorder only if his actions "caused clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational or other important areas of functioning." In other words, a man who molested children without remorse, and without experiencing significant impairment in his social and work relationships, could be diagnosed by a clinician as a "psychologically normal" type of pedophile.

By the APA addressing the morality issue of pedophilia, they opened the door to questioning the removal of homosexuality from the DSM in 1973. Pedophiles have started to press this issue and argue parity with homosexuality, which has opened the door to discussions within the APA of homosexuality being reclassified as a mental disorder.
Dass, Homosexuality was by definition (and name) a paraphilia and as such it was by definition a mental disorder. Since "homosexuality" was listed as a paraphilia they can’t really justify the removal of it from the DSM homosexual. So you, don’t care if there was no medical reason to removed homosexuality as a mental disorder.

You see they were both listed as paraphilias and mental disorders.
Uncommon, essays are shorter than books, why not educate yourself, instead of just rolling along.
@ A Yahoo, I don’t care what the APA says, and neither should you. Neither should homosexuals, for that matter, have a say in their diagnosis. Not even the ones who have read so many internet articles and for-public books on it.

Wow, this is some good stuff and finally you think, not enough but start. It was NARTH and Spitzer who corned the APA into the DSM IV R, because they were threatened into the possibility of losing their credentials.

The APA has said that all gay men have pedophile fantasies, and they call it normal sexual fantasy, to fixate on a child.

Some one said that pedophiles should be able to participate in the reclassification, but yet the homosexual pedophiles were the ones who reclassified homosexuality. Look it up.

Some one mentioned older men and young boys, well in Britain F@gs and in France Gai, and the basis of gay male attraction was pedophile based(young boys serving men in a pleasureable manner)

One relates to mutual desire between consenting adults and the other consenting children, and they both relate to object fixation of one actor upon another unable to give consent due to age or impaired development.

Object fixation: males fixated on the anus, a substitute vagina.
Lesbians fixated on dildos and strap-ons, substitute pen*s.

The gays seem as convinced against pedophiles, who if the APA gets its way, will have the same scientific arguments as homosexuals. All you gays seem to have moral arguments, which is kind of like religion has against homosexuality. You see, according to the APA, pedophilia in some cases may not hurt the child.

Harry Hay, the modern gay rights LGBT founder, was said to have seduced a man as a child, for his first gay mentoring pedophile relationship.

is joining a stamp club good for my extra-curricular activities for college?

so is would this contribute as an extra-curricular activity for me??
and would this help to improve my existing extra curricular activities?

thanks for your time

Colleges look at extracurriculars in different ways. They look to see if you were merely a "joiner" or if you were a leader. You do not need to be an officer, but being an officer is sometimes a "free pass". You need to accomplish something in the activity. Either show that you met a personal goal through the activity, or that you contributed ideas and planning to meet a group goal. It is not enough to wave the mission statement of the organization.
Having said this, this group appears to offer opportunity for you to show what you can do. Enjoy!

What is mean by camera ready paper?

In National & International level symposiums, the author is subject to submit the camera-ready paper with in the stipulated time. What is mean by that camera-ready paper? Why it is called so? From where this word originates?

Something is ‘camera ready’ when it can be shot by a printer’s camera for printing purposes. It means the printer doesn’t have to do anything to improve on the presentation…just shoot it.

In modern time, have women contributed as equally as Men in Scientific and Tecnical fields as Feminists claims?

As this statement from a Yahoo’s Gender & WS feminist member:

"….How many men and women right now are working in science to cure us and how many together created our technology, all creeds, races and both genders. Cass if it was one guys sitting in a room making all this happen then wouldn’t he be getting some kind of prize..? Come on. Women contribute just as much as men do in these area’s the fact that you’re blind-sighted it is because you are bias, the rest of the world is not."
***********************************************************************

Let’s examine a case study in Japan:

Excerpt:
"…Males strongly predominate among scientists and engineers, accounting for 93 percent of all S/E.."
"…males comprise 93 percent of all Japanese scientists and engineers…"
http://www.census.gov/ipc/www/ebaut96b.html

- Among survey respondents, the proportion of women remains at or below 10% across all scientific disciplines in Japan, with the exception of the Life Sciences and Biology, where women make up almost 30% of the scientists. The lowest representation (below 5%) is found in Mathematics and Mechanical Engineering.
http://anitaborg.org/news/archive/international-initatives-symposium-at-tsuda-womens-college-tokyo/

And in the UK:
"..Currently 85% of the full time science, engineering and technology workforce are male."
http://news.zdnet.co.uk/itmanagement/0,1000000308,2069965,00.htm

In the US:
"….only 28 percent of computer systems analysts are women, and just 31 percent of computer programmers are women. A mere 8 percent of engineers are women. And overall in private industry, only 18 percent of technologists are women."
http://news.zdnet.co.uk/software/0,1000000121,2069668,00.htm

@Cassius put it eloquently.

Men typically use the right side of their brain so they’re more likely to advance in Math and Science. From what I’ve gathered throughout my personal life; women don’t create much. Using houses as an example.. They TYPICALLY don’t design the house, they don’t lay out the blueprints, they don’t physically build it, & they don’t install all the features necessary for human inhabitants. They just don’t make things the same way a man does. Statistics prove this, and even though feminists try to deny it women are behind men in more fields than just Math and Science. Feminists would have you believe they’re being held back but in reality they don’t want to break from their traditional gender roles because it makes life easy. Any woman can get married and be a "home maker" but it requires more effort to actually make the home. The "glass ceiling" or comfort in the familiar?
This old tradition of let the man do the work while I take care of the kids and "make a home" really hasn’t changed much from the 50’s.

What is Symposium? particularly medical related.?

In a recent days many symposiums are going to be held at various institutes in the auditorium. some are of national level and some are international. Everywhere, dates are given, but timing of the symposium is not given. I have not attended any symposium before so I don`t know any thing about it. Plz help me… Let me know every thing: code of dress, behaviour, timing, brief about physical view, how it is conducted, etc…

A Medical Symposium is either a half or full day meeting designed to disseminate accurate, up-to-date medical information to patients and families, healthcare professionals, educators, and other service providers . A slate of speakers, usually two to four, are scheduled to provide information on the topic or topics.

You want to dress to express you are a professional. At least business casual dress.
A suit and tie can be made less formal once you see what other people are wearing.

http://www.seri2009.com.au/pages/proposalinfo.pdf
this site is not about medical symposium, but may give you more information about the symposium style of conference

many times more than one topic is presented at the same time, so you need to find the schedule and possibly register for sessions that interest you

contact the organization which is sponsoring the symposium

best wishes

Is this a good letter of intent for a graduate school for a Masters in Secondary Ed?

Posted by admin on February 1st, 2010 and filed under international symposium | 1 Comment »

I’ve searched so many sites, and have gotten so many different hints or guides. I’ve changed the schools names….

Dear (Admissions names here)

I have been considering attending graduate school for a few years now, and am very excited at the prospect of attending Graduate University to earn my Master’s Degree in Secondary Education and Teacher Certification.

I graduated from Undergrad University earning a degree in Environmental Science, Biology Emphasis in 2006. At Undergrad University I immersed myself into the science program as much as possible. In addition to my academic work, I was involved in the Environmental Action Club where I served as Chairperson for Undergrad University Earth Day and Vice President. During my senior year I was awarded the Cool Scholarship that honors female science majors, became employed by the Biology department as a laboratory assistant, conducted independent research, and was student representative to Undergrad’s Environmental Science Academic Committee as well as the Student Involvement Initiative of the Pennsylvania Environmental Resource Consortium (formerly PCIEP) where I helped organize a symposium to discuss how to make food services more environmentally friendly. I also became an intern at an international environmental consulting firm where, upon my graduation, I was promoted to a full-time employee as an Environmental Scientist. During all of this I was able to maintain a 3.38 GPA.

During my employment following graduation, my husband and I decided to start a family. Although I find motherhood very rewarding, I miss having a career in the science field. As I considered going back into environmental consulting, I thought about all the teachers that I had during my student career. I realized that my teachers were a significant reason I loved science so much. I want to have an opportunity to inspire students. I think many children lose some interest in the sciences as the concepts get more difficult. This is why I chose secondary education as my focus. I want to be able to recapture their interest and instill a lifelong fascination with science.

While at Graduate University I know that I will be attending a respectable university that cares about their students’ intellect and ambitions. It will also help me achieve my personal and professional goals. As a stay-at-home mom I need flexibility in class schedules and the fact that I can obtain my degree through online classes is a huge benefit. I have a clear vision of my goals and I believe attending Graduate University will make those visions a reality. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon.

Sincerely,

(my name)

This is solid and well above most of these types of letters I’ve run across. I have three recommendations:

1. Find one professor at the university where you would like to study and mention his or her name and why you like the research/publication/pedagogy that person is known for. It doesn’t have to be the most prestigious person there, but it should be someone whose work you wouldn’t mind studying. This lets the admissions committee know you have done a little investigation into the department.

2. Double check you capitalization. For example, you’re going after your master’s degree, not your Master’s Degree, and you earned a degree in environmental science with an emphasis in biology. The only field names to be capitalized are those of languages, e.g. English, Russian, French, and so on, unless it precedes a name (Julie Smith, Master of Secondary Education). You only capitalize titles (environmental scientist) when they precede or follow a name, too ( Julie Smith, Environmental Scientist; Director of Science Stuff Julie Smith).

3. The sentence "During my senior year…" is very long. I advise you to break it up into at least two sentences. You’re listing many of your qualifications at a breakneck pace. Give your readers an occasional short sentence to let them keep up with all the information you’re hitting them with.

These are minor issues, though. The content seems appropriate and well articulated. You come across as a strong applicant. Best of luck to you.

According to Feminism, Men are aggressive, power hungry, selfish, domineering, obsessed with Hierachy, etc…?

Then where are these Men come from? Mars? Aliens?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Erd%C5%91s

Excerpt:
"….Possessions meant little to Erdős; most of his belongings would fit in a suitcase, as dictated by his itinerant lifestyle. Awards and other earnings were generally donated to people in need and various worthy causes. He spent most of his life as a vagabond, travelling between scientific conferences and the homes of colleagues all over the world. He would typically show up at a colleague’s doorstep and announce "my brain is open," staying long enough to collaborate on a few papers before moving on a few days later. In many cases, he would ask the current collaborator about whom he (Erdős) should visit next."

Other idiosyncratic elements of Erdős’ vocabulary include:

children were referred to as "epsilons" (because in mathematics, particularly calculus, an arbitrarily small positive quantity is commonly denoted by that Greek letter (ε));
women were "bosses";
men were "slaves"

Prof Hoang Tuy-A Prominent Applied Mathematician— Taketomo Mitsui

"….Therefore I was very keen to get to know him personally. When the re-unification of Vietnam had just been realized, I was impressed that Prof. Tuy’s academic work had been carried out in the period under EXTREMELY HARD conditions
…I actually met Prof. Tuy at the hotel in Ho Chi Minh City. As you know, he is small in his physical stature, but looks prominently intellectual. I said in my heart “He is a mathematician!”. Although he was very busy in Ho Chi Minh City encouraging and advising the organizers of the international symposium as the leader of Vietnamese mathematicians community, he was so kind to take care of me by appointing a young Vietnamese colleague in be charge of me…"
…he is a very tough and strict mathematician. I was also informed of his very harsh experiences during the Vietnamese war. In fact, he fled to the jungle for many months and continued his study in the moonlight after a very hard daytime labor. He should be an iron man like, say Egon Balas who experienced awful youth-food. Therefore, I was a little scared to meet him in person in my oéce. However, I was surprised to find that he is a small friendly, white haired man. I was also surprised that he knew my straightforward extension of his cutting plane for concave minimization problems published almost a decade ago.
…Professor Tuy himself came to visit Japan more frequently. Every time he brings us wonderful presents of research ideas. Yes, he is just Santa Claus coming from a southern country for us, the researchers in Japan."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rene_Descarte

…Despite these frequent moves he wrote all his major work during his 20 plus years in the Netherlands, where he managed to revolutionize mathematics and philosophy. In 1633, Galileo was condemned by the Roman Catholic Church, and Descartes abandoned plans to publish Treatise on the World, his work of the previous four years. "Discourse on the Method" was published in 1637. In it Descartes lays out four rules of thought, meant to ensure that our knowledge rests upon a firm foundation.

… Descartes continued to publish works concerning both mathematics and philosophy for the rest of his life. In 1643, Cartesian philosophy was condemned at the University of Utrecht, and Descartes began his long correspondence with Princess Elisabeth of Bohemia. In 1647, he was awarded a pension by the King of France. Descartes was interviewed by Frans Burman at Egmond-Binnen in 1648.

René Descartes died on 11 February 1650 in Stockholm, Sweden, where he had been invited as a teacher for Queen Christina of Sweden. The cause of death was said to be pneumonia—accustomed to working in bed until noon, he may have suffered a detrimental effect on his health due to Christina’s demands for early morning study (the lack of sleep could have severely compromised his immune system). Others believe that Descartes may have contracted pneumonia as a result of nursing a French ambassador, Dejion A. Nopeleen, ill with the aforementioned disease, back to health.[9]

I CAN LITERALLY FIND ENDLESS STREAM OF SUCH GOOD MEN IN WIKIPEDIA & OTHER INTERNET SITE .

YET, FEMINISTS INSISTED THAT: "MEN ARE PRIVILEGED EVILS WHO DEPRIVED WOMEN FROM ATTAINING GENIUS ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE PAST!"

THEY NEVER RECOGNIZED THAT, IN THE PASS, MEN HAVE TO OVERCOME AS MUCH HARDSHIP AS WOMEN, IN PURSUE OF INTELLECTUAL ENDEAVOURS.
@modigi: before you shoot your mouth off. Do the research on feminist’s proverbs. You have not been in GWS forum long enough to know feminists.

Your knowledge of them come from feminist infested media spoon-fed to your TV.

@Not so nasty me: you are a very intelligent lady.

What I noticed about feminist women is they try to be what they think men are. That’s why the characteristics you just mentioned can also be found in feminist women.

What you know about women right in Islam?

Honorable Justice Kazi, respected elders, distinguished guests, members of the press, friends, brothers and sisters.
There are many social traumas, problems and conflicts… women in society face today, and we sincerely need to find viable holistic and humanistic solutions to them.
In this context, the subject of ‘Women’s Rights’ is of much contemporary analytical relevance, and human interest.

For God ever watches over you
To orphans restore their property when they reach their age nor substitute your worthless things for their good ones and devour not their substance by mixing it up with your own, for this is indeed a great sin.
Verily Allah speaks the Truth’.
(Dr. Mohammed) Assalaamu Alaikum… Thank, you brother Ashraf.
For those who may be introduced new to the IRF and its activities, I would like to briefly outline the IRF, and its work.
The IRF was initially started in February 1991, to cater to the need for proper Islamic knowledge amongst the educated Muslim youth – Youth who may be ignorant about Islamic teachings, youth who may tend to be wrongly apologetic about Islam, and youth who may not know how to properly present and practice Islam, for the whole world at large, to appreciate and look up to.
Now the IRF has been growing in many other deserving areas of its other objectives, specially in humanitarian relief activities and educational upliftment.
Amongst its popular services, IRF has a collection of more than 1,300 Video cassettes and more than 4,000 Audio cassettes, on Islam and Comparative Religion, available for free hire in Bombay.
It also has to its credit, more then 50 publications on Islam and Comparative Religion, which are available free on request, all over India.
To promote education, the need of the day, amongst our people, the IRF Educational Trust was established 1½ year back of which Dr. Zakir happens to be the chairman.
Today Dr. Zakir will be speaking on the topic… ‘Women’s Rights in Islam – Modernizing or Outdated?’
This would be followed by a Question and Answer session, in which you all have a right to question and cross examine him, on the topic and the matter presented in a very open format.
When we consider the rights and justice for women in this open court of ours today, in context of Islamic laws and views, it is very befitting, and our esteemed pleasure to have amongst us the eminent Judge, Honorable Justice Muhammad Mujeebuddin Qazi, to preside over this programme.
Justice Qazi has been for 13 years from 1968 to 1981, the government pleader at the Nagpur Branch of the Bombay High Court, being the highest law officer of the Government of Maharashtra, there of.
Then, Justice Qazi became the first Muslim, after Justice M. C. Chagra to be elevated from the Bar to the Bench, as a Judge of the Bombay High Court, where he has been delivering j

Before I answer, let me comment on Jwenting :
Before they marry they’re the property of their father, to do with as he pleases.
Kanan: Simply NOT true and NOT founded. Get your facts right

after they marry (to a man selected by their father, not themselves) they are the property of their husband, to do with as he pleases.

Kanan: NOT true and NOT founded. Where you get this from? What is your source?

If they resist anything any man tries to do with/to them they are liable to be killed for it, or severely beaten for not doing as they are told.

Kanan: Good lord man. Are you making this up or you had too many to drink?

And that’s more rights than non-Muslims have in Islam, the only right non-Muslims have is to be killed.

Kanan: pack of lies and ill intended

To answer the misinformed brainwashed people about Women rights in Islam:
1. Women have the right to choose their future husband, they have the right to say NO
2. Women have the right to education
3. Women have the right to have their own Business
4. Women are looked after financially from cradle to grave:
Until she gets married she is cared for by her Father
When she gets married, her husband is legally bound to support all her financial needs.
Her ALL incomes belongs to her, she has the right to it without any interference from anybody.
If her Husband divorce her or died, her father or family are responsible to support her financially.

4. Women inheritance:
4.1 If a man dies and left only One daughter, she inherit 1/5 his wealth
4.2. If a man dies and left only daughters, they inherit 2/3 of his wealth
4.3. If a man dies and left daughters and sons girls inherit have boys of his wealth.
4.4 A woman inherits 1/4 of her Husband if he has kids

There are so many rules on inheritance in Islam that is hard to mention all of them.

One final statement, if what all these evil things about women right in Islam why there are 1.2 Billion Muslim in the world.

5. When a Muslim woman gets married she retains her Family name unlike western women who became Mrs somebody.
