I have Verizon cell phone service (U.S.), and I’m texting to someone in England (I don’t know what cell phone provider they have). Is there any way to know about how long it takes for my text messages to go through to them? Is it pretty instantaneous, like in America?

I am a Verizon customer in the US and often text my family in England.
Sometimes it takes 2-3 seconds. Sometimes it takes almost a minute. Usually the message doesn’t go through at all. I’ve found messages NEVER go through to Orange phones in the UK, but have good success with O2 and T-Mobile phones over there.
That’s my experience – yours may vary.
What I did in the end was set up Skype and have them set up Skype too – so now we call and message for free, and it always works.
