you think that this will be a good year for the PS3?
The PS3 is the cheapest blue-ray player on the market.
Blu-ray winning the war isn’t going to make a huge impact on the PS3. It’s possible to get cheaper Blu-ray players than the PS3. For Christmas, I got a Blu-ray player for about 300 bucks. But PS3 can’t win unless Blu-ray wins. If HD-DVD have won, I think Sony would be in deep trouble. The casual gamer isn’t going to buy a PS3 for the Blu-ray technology because it’s most likely going to be useless to them if HD-DVD is the supported format.
2008 is going to be a good year for the PS3 simply because of the games. It’s been well over a year, and the PS3 still haven’t seen any major blockbuster games, but this year, it’s going to be different. Metal Gear Solid 4 is scheduled to come out this year, and we all know that MGS4 is going to be a system seller. This is the game that’s going to make all non-PS3 owners salivate. Killzone 2 is also expected to come out this year, and from footage that’s been shown, it looks better than Halo 3. There’s also LittleBigPlanet which is catching people by surprise. It looks like it’s going to be a really fun game. And finally, HOME will get released. HOME has a chance to compete with XBL.

I don’t think it will have much impact on the PS3 seeing as the PS3 is more expensive than most other Blue-Ray players.

Yes, 2008 will be the year of the PS3 and the two biggest factors will be all the awesome games coming out for it this year and that the Blu-Ray has won the format war.

I think it will finally be a good year for the PS3 though I think that’s due to its exclusive titles like FF13 and MGS4 coming out at last, personally I think blu ray isn’t all that important I honestly don’t expect many games to actually utilize anywhere near the disk space given, also I think the future of most media particularly movies will be more download orientated which means blu ray is unlikely to get the same kind of main stream acceptance as the previous DVD or VHS formats, as broadband speeds increase larger and larger downloads become easier and faster then Movie studios are obviously going start moving toward downloads as has happened with music, also buying download-able content is obviously cheaper than buying a disk from a store.

Wrong, the PS3 is NOT the cheapest player in the market, I was just at Target last night, and the Blu-ray player was $389

Blu-ray’s victory will definitely have an impact on the PS3, for the reason you mentioned – it’s the cheapest blu-ray player on the market right now.
However, the PS3 has not been doing as well in the area of GAMES.
The PS3 may be a success as a movie player, but as a game console, it’s still trailing the 360 and Wii by a large amount. There are some very big and anticipated titles due for the PS3 this year, including MGS4 and Gran Turismo Prologue. However, whether these titles will be the big smash hits Sony hopes (and NEEDS!) has yet to be seen. In the meantime, both the 360 and Wii are plowing ahead with their titles. The PS3 has been picking up in both hardware and software sales, but it’s really too early to say if this is going to be the PS3’s year to shine.
We should be seeing the first of the big anticipated hits in March and April. This will hopefully include things like the new rumble controller, HOME, and big games. Time will tell…

Im glad blue-ray got the nod, its sweet. The PS3, though, has yet to prove its hardware to be strong. In fact, every first playstation model has had some hardware inferiorities. Playstation 1, Playstation 2(with blue discs). Expect some hardware problems as usual. Hell, I still have an atari2600 and old nintendo that I can hook up and play anytime, no problem.
