America could pit it best drivers in the COT’s versus other true stock cars of the world driven by NASCARs international drivers.
It wouldn’t be a fair competition. One of the beauties about the olympics is it’s man versus man. There’s not really any machines to throw into the equation. This year they have BMX races but it’s still powered by man not an engine or anything like that. I hope they would never put any type of machine in the olympics.

I’m pretty sure the Cup cars are far more advanced than their foreign counterparts. There aren’t many ‘true’ stock cars anymore. They’re race cars. It’s 2008, not 1958. People want speed, not a bunch of ’stock’ cars going around a track at 130 mph.
It would be interesting, but I don’t think that would work. Too many people would whine and complain that it’s not a sport. The IOC would probably laugh their tail feathers off.

It would be really hard to try to convince the IOC to add Auto Racing as a sport. Then comes the argument should it be stock-car racing, open-wheel, or both. Maybe if we start petitioning now, we might get it as an Olympic sport in 2012.

i put a question about nascar and the olympics not too long ago.
the question was something like, "if Nascar was an olympic event, which drivers would you send? (and which ever driver who would go, would also represent their country)
i do believe that Nascar should be part of the olympics.
