I’m leaving NYC for Sydney Australia soon (my first international flight) and I was wondering how much cash I should carry. I will have my credit card as well, but just as a precaution.
Enough to cover any emergencies in the airports until you can get to an ATM machine at your destination. A little bit of advice, I had $200 lifted during TSA inspection, had put my money in my carry on bag. The inspector was doing something with his hands and since there was a curtain there I couldn’t see what he was doing, he acted like I was trying to rush him. I had the money when I ate lunch and it was there when I put my wallet in the carry on bag. I decided to be more careful and bought a zippered Bible cover before my next trip, put my Bible in that and the cash in the inside pockets, and put a back pack (not a TSA ) lock on the zipper pulls. I put the Bible cover in the carry on bag and decided if they wanted it open I would open it and watch them. No more stolen cash.
I think some of the TSA are worse than pick-pockets, and wish I’d checked my cash while waiting for my flight. My bag always stayed with me and with the lock on it so I know it didn’t happen while I was waiting for the flight.
There was a fairly large conference on climate change last week which basically went unreported. If you didn’t hear about it, it’s because the mainstream media completely ignored it. http://www.heartland.org/events/2010Chicago/index.html
Why was this large event, attended by hundreds of top climate scientists, ignored by the media?
I’m astounded that some people think a particular point of view should not be newsworthy, especially a very large international gathering.
That’s alarming.
Pegminer, I can only assume that your conferences weren’t discussing major current issues. However, if there some important discussion on something current, like climate change, I would have wanted to hear about it.
Maybe mainstream media is finally waking up and realizing global warming is a bunch of bull…
I am moving to Boston soon and am going to this school I want to know if its good and nice school to go to???
Don’t you think it is a little late to ask that question?
All BIHS people quit recently and moved to Nevada.
Sorry you will be the only person there. Have fun.
I hear the ghosts are friendly sometimes. Or was that too friendly all the time?
I need to find a flight for this week from Denver to Des Moines. All I have been able to find are tickets that start at about $300. I know its expensive because it is just a couple days before the travel date but I need to be in Des Moines before Friday night. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Driving isnt an option. I do not have a car with me. I need to know if anyone knows of certain ways to get cheap flights. does anyone know of a website where i could find some standby flights?
Greyhound Bus – Denver to Des Moines, depending on the exact bus you get on, it takes between 14 and 18 hours, and the discounted web fare is about $93.00. The Standard fare is only $106.
Amtrak runs trains from Denver to Chicago, but not through Des Moines. The nearest they get is Osceola. Takes about 12 hours and the fare is $79. Once you get to Osceola, Jefferson Lines buses run two trips daily from Osceola to Des Moines, at 10 am and 9:25 pm for between $16 and $20. Takes about 45 minutes. Don’t have any idea how that bus schedule matches up with any arriving train schedule, though.
For train information, see

You can make Jefferson Lines reservations through the Greyhound site.
Good Luck.
I want to fly from Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) to Cambodia (Phnom Penh) around the end of June and return beginning of August probably with AirAsia.
Do i need to buy tickets before I go, or can i buy them cheaply at a travel agent or at the airport when I arrive in Malaysia. I don’t want to buy them before I go incase there is a delay in the flights from the UK and I miss the International flight to Cambodia.
Please help, I need advice on travelling to and from Cambodia from Malaysia!

I’m 18 this year. Now, I study HS but I want to buy house when I’m in college. Where can I find information about buying house?
(I have visa F1. I’m from Viet Nam.)
Thanks a lot!

Any body can buy a house in US. So you will be able to buy house but you may not be able to get a mortgage. Most banks will give mortgage only if you have some kind of immigrant status in US.
should be 12pm since the U.K. is 8hrs ahead of california and the game plays at 8pm there
…which starts tomorrow?

Billions of dollars of grant money [over $50 billion] are flowing into the pockets of those on the man-made global warming bandwagon. No man-made global warming, the money dries up. This is big money, make no mistake about it. Always follow the money trail and it tells a story. . .
I’m a student myself, an American citizen. I have a small programming company that contracts with my university. Its a sole proprietorship, and I only plan on hiring contract labor to have others do some work. What regulations do I have to follow to hire an international student as a contractor?

Most western countries require you to declare any amount you bring into the country exceeding 10,000.- USD / local currency. Is this the case for passengers on international flights into India as well? If so, is there a limit as to how much cash can be carried? How much? Re declaring the excess amount: Has anyone done it and knows the procedure? Is it painfully bureaucratic or straight forward? Thanks
It’s about $2,000 US dollars according to our (Indian) bank and to be honest, if you don’t need to take that much currency in one hit and just need money while you’re over there, take it out at ATM’s or use your credit card. Whilst in theory it should be relatively pain free (i.e. just declare it, fill in a form and pay any additional charges) nothing (and I mean nothing) will necessarily be that straight forward, especially if you get unlucky and get someone who doesn’t speak great english. Overall bureaucracy world wide is frustrating but it can be EXTRA frustrating for a westerner in India!
Your best bet is just to arrange for your bank to do an international money transfer to whoever you’re paying the money to’s account (don’t use a money wire service, not worth it), using SWIFT codes and IBAN. Post 9/11 the reserve bank of india is VERY hot on money laundering so if you’re traveling why carry cash and risk it if you can just take it out of an ATM as you go!
